Evrópumótið, meaning "The European Championship" in Icelandic, refers to major European sports competitions, most notably the UEFA European Championship in football and the EHF European Championship in handball. Icelanders have shown significant interest in these tournaments, particularly during the UEFA Euro 2016 when their national football team performed remarkably, leading to widespread media coverage and enthusiastic commentary in Iceland. The term was also used in Icelandic media to describe the final match of the UEFA Euro 2020 (held in July 2021) between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium, which was marred by public disorder.
