Ali Larijani was a prominent Iranian politician, military officer, and philosopher who served as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2025 until his assassination on March 17, 2026. He was considered a key figure in Iran's nuclear policy and was widely regarded as the de facto leader of Iran from late December 2025 until his death. Larijani's assassination in an Israeli airstrike was a significant blow to Iran's leadership.
