ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, which typically manifests early in life. In Iceland, there has been significant public and media discussion surrounding ADHD, particularly concerning diagnosis rates and medication use, with some studies suggesting a higher prevalence of diagnoses and medication prescriptions compared to other Nordic countries. The Icelandic Ministry of Health has established a working group to investigate the use of ADHD medications and diagnostic practices in response to these findings.
