Spánn is the Icelandic name for Spain, a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Iceland and Spain maintain excellent diplomatic relations, with both countries being members of NATO and the Council of Europe. Iceland opened an embassy in Madrid on December 1, 2025, to strengthen ties, facilitate administrative procedures for Icelandic citizens, and support business interests. Spain also has an embassy in Reykjavik, primarily to protect its citizens' interests, promote relations, and facilitate tourism and business. Historically, Spain was an important market for Icelandic salt cod, and more recently, Spanish cuisine has seen a rise in popularity in Iceland.
