The Persian Gulf, known as "Persaflói" in Icelandic, is a shallow marginal sea of the Indian Ocean located in West Asia, situated between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. It is connected to the Gulf of Oman via the Strait of Hormuz and is approximately 989 kilometers long with a maximum depth of 90 meters. While not directly in Iceland, events occurring in the Persian Gulf, such as the reported missile strike on an American oil tanker, are covered by Icelandic media due to their global significance.
