ASÍ, or Alþýðusamband Íslands, is the Icelandic Confederation of Labour, a major trade union center established in 1916. It represents a significant portion of the Icelandic workforce, primarily in the private sector, with around 93,000 members, making it the most representative confederation in the private sector. ASÍ plays a crucial role in Icelandic society by promoting the interests of its affiliated trade unions and workers, coordinating policies on employment, social, education, environment, and labor market issues, and representing the trade union movement at various government levels. The organization has stated it will not participate in discussions about welfare system cuts to control inflation.
