Landhelgisgæslan, also known as the Icelandic Coast Guard (ICG), is a law enforcement agency responsible for maritime safety, security surveillance, and search and rescue operations in the seas surrounding Iceland. Established in 1926, the ICG plays a crucial role in national defense, operating the NATO Iceland Air Defense System and conducting hydrographic surveys and nautical charting. Its duties also include law enforcement, fisheries control, pollution response, and explosive ordnance disposal.
