Selfoss is the largest town in South Iceland, situated on the banks of the Ölfusá river, approximately 57 kilometers southeast of Reykjavík. It serves as a significant hub for commerce, industry, and tourism in the region, and is often referred to as the "capital of the South." The town's development began with the construction of a suspension bridge over the Ölfusá in 1891, improving connectivity and trade. Selfoss is also home to UMF Selfoss, a multisport club with successful men's handball and women's football teams.
