Píratar, also known as the Pirate Party, is an Icelandic political party founded in November 2012 in Reykjavík. The party emphasizes direct democracy, transparency, freedom of speech, and civil rights in the digital age. It gained significant attention following the 2008 financial crisis and the 2016 Panama Papers scandal, advocating for government transparency and anti-corruption. Helgi Hrafn Gunnarsson was a Member of Parliament for the Pirate Party from 2013 to 2016 and again from 2017 to 2021, and also served as the parliamentary group leader.
