Leó páfi, also known as Pope Leo XIV, is the current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, elected on May 8, 2025. He is the 267th Pope and the first from the United States, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago in 1955. He previously served as a missionary in Peru and was made a cardinal by Pope Francis in early 2024. Leó páfi has indicated he intends to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Pope Francis, but has also stated he is not inclined to alter the Church's doctrines on issues such as same-sex marriage or the ordination of women.
