Hvalfjarðarsveit is a municipality located in the Vesturland region of western Iceland, established on June 1, 2006, through the merger of four smaller municipalities. It is named after the fjord Hvalfjörður, which forms its southern border. The municipality is home to a significant portion of Iceland's heavy industry, particularly in the Grundartangi industrial area, which also hosts one of the country's largest ports. Hvalfjarðarsveit is also known for its natural beauty, including Glymur, Iceland's second-tallest waterfall, and offers various hiking trails and natural attractions.
