In Icelandic media, "Indland" refers to India, a country in South Asia. India and Iceland established diplomatic relations in 1972, with resident missions opening in New Delhi in 2006 and Reykjavik in 2008. Bilateral ties are based on shared values of democracy, equality, human rights, and the rule of law, and Iceland has supported India's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The two countries cooperate in areas such as renewable energy, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, fisheries, and Arctic issues.
