Skagafjörður

Staður

Skagafjörður is a deep fjord and its surrounding valley located in northern Iceland, known for its rich history and agricultural prosperity. It is often referred to as the "Horse Country" of Iceland due to its strong connection to the Icelandic horse, with horses outnumbering people in the region. The area played a significant role in 13th-century civil war events and is home to historical sites like the Glaumbær turf farm museum and the cultural center of Hólar. The municipality of Skagafjörður covers most of the land area around the fjord and includes the town of Sauðárkrókur, which is its largest village.
