Alþingi is the national parliament of Iceland, a unicameral legislature and one of the oldest national parliaments in the world, established around 930 AD at Thingvellir. Its primary role is to enact and amend laws, and it also handles applications for Icelandic citizenship, including requests for exemptions from the Icelandic Nationality Act. Alþingi has fiscal powers, making decisions on government spending and taxation.

The European Union (EU), known in Icelandic as "Evrópusambandið," is an economic and political union of 27 member states primarily located in Europe. While Iceland is not a member of the EU, it has strong ties through the European Economic Area (EEA) agreement, which grants it access to the EU market and requires it to implement EU directives related to the free movement of goods, persons, services, and capital. RÚV, also known as the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (Ríkisútvarpið), is Iceland's national public-service broadcasting organization. Established in 1930, it plays a significant role in Icelandic cultural life by providing reliable news, educational content, and entertainment across television, radio, and online platforms. RÚV operates two television channels (RÚV and RÚV 2) and three radio stations (Rás 1, Rás 2, and Rondó), with its online news service being one of the most visited websites in Iceland.
