Fróðárheiði

Staður

Fróðárheiði is a heath and a mountain pass road located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland, reaching an elevation of 361 meters. It connects the towns of Búðir in the south with Ólafsvík in the north, and the 14 km road across it is now fully paved. Historically, the area is known for the "Fróðá Wonders," extraordinary events recounted in the Eyrbyggja Saga around 1000 AD, involving ghostly apparitions and other supernatural occurrences. Due to its elevation and the region's harsh weather, Fróðárheiði is often impassable during winter, and road conditions can be challenging with snow, fog, and slippery surfaces.
